(Reuters) - Malaysia marked its 51st birthday on Sunday with a mammoth parade that did little to mask the uncertainties a reborn opposition poses to the government's uninterrupted hold on power since independence from Britain in 1957.

Thousands of people marched in the historic Merdeka (Freedom) Square, watched by Malaysia's king and government leaders. Fighter planes and helicopters roamed the sky above.

But beneath the pomp and gala, Malaysia's embattled government is heading into major political turbulence.

Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim says he is seeking to win over 30 defectors from the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition to form a new government by his self-imposed deadline of Sept. 16.

Anwar said on Saturday his opposition alliance would not use money or blackmail to woo defectors.

"The MPs can see the trend among the people who are demanding change," he said. "That's why they are keen to support a party that is fair to all races."

Anwar's Pakatan Rakyat alliance, which made unprecedented gains in March general elections, has 82 seats in the 222-seat parliament. It needs 30 more to win a simple majority.

MARKETS JITTERY

The prospect of a power struggle has alarmed foreign investors and unnerved the financial markets. The Malaysian currency, the ringgit, is near an 11-month low, and the stock market hit a 20-month low last week.

Government leaders have played down the prospects of their MPs crossing over to Pakatan. But that has not stopped them from scare-mongering about Anwar.

Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak said the country could lose its independence if the Barisan government loses power.

"If we do not safeguard the nation's independence, we will only be left yearning for it if we lose power," he said on Saturday in his home state of Pahang.

Anwar is banking on Barisan MPs from the eastern states of Sabah and Sarawak on Borneo. The two resource-rich states have complained that their grouses have often been overlooked by the federal government.

In a major setback to Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, several of his MPs from the two states have refused to sign a petition launched last week pledging support for him.

Abdullah moved to appease the Sabah and Sarawak state governments by proposing major infrastructure projects in his 2009 Budget speech in parliament on Friday.

In his National Day speech, Abdullah asked Malaysians to rally behind his government to face "all enemies and challenges".

Anwar rejoined parliament on Thursday after a 10-year absence and immediately clashed with the government, leading an opposition walkout.

Anwar, once the protege of then Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, was forced from office in 1998 on corruption and sodomy charges he says were part of a conspiracy to ruin his career.

Asked if he was still on track in his quest to topple the government, Anwar told reporters on his first day in parliament on Thursday: "Yes".

At the same time Anwar must fight a new sodomy charge, which he says is politically motivated, at a trial that begins next month. If the new sodomy prosecution is successful, Anwar could get 20 years in jail, effectively ending the 61-year-old's political career. Even if he is not found guilty, months in court could overshadow his push for power.

All homosexual sex is illegal in Malaysia, a mainly Muslim nation of 27 million people.

What are you talking about Najib? The rakyat is working towards regaining MERDAKA by throwing out the corrupt BN government and replacing it with leaders with a vision to bring back the glory that Malayia has lost. To this end the rakyat will prevail.

Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak said the country could lose its independence if the Barisan government loses power.

The truth is the other way round: The country will gain its independence once BN loses its power.

This former USM lecturer who hails from Selangor, is also the Executive Director of State owned Perlis Holdings and is said to be promised by Badawi the CEO post in one of the GLC's. Not a bad reward for someone who utters a seditious remark in front of a live national TV audience. This Scribe wonders what type of reward awaits Ahmad Ismail for this remark...More http://*********.********.com

Inilah Barisan Nasional

(sung to the tune of Perajurit Tanah Air / Inilah Barisan Kita)

Inilah Barisan Nasional
Yang kuat bersumpah
Siap se-dia dengan Quran
Menuju Masjid negeri

Sebelum kita bersumpah
Jangan harap kami jujur semua
Inilah sumpah ..penyumpah kita..
Menuju masjid negeri!!!

Andainya anda telahpun diliwat..
ataupun letupkan bom yang hebat
kami mohon doa…....
kemudian Sumpah sumpah (altogether now.. SUMPAH)

Semboyan telah berbunyi!!!!
Menuju…masjid negeri!

Read from the original source from [url=LKS blog http://blog.limkitsiang.com/20...#more-1429:
The official National Day theme this year is “Unity, the core of success”. It is humdrum, pedestrian, uninspiring and even meaningless in the midst of keris-wielding and shouts of “perpaduan Melayu”.

Perhaps UMNO/BN should have set them theme as Malay Unity, the core of success. So, why now they want all races to come together while they routinely talk up only on Malay unity, Malay spremacy, etc?

UMNO remained dreaming and not knowing that many Malays with conscience would not want to see unfair treatment and marginalisation of other races in the country. They remained not realising that their decades of brain-washing the Malays did not attain 100% success as they hoped, the power of the controled MSMs had been incapabled under globalisation & internet age.

Rescue Malaysia!

What a surprise or maybe not. After 50 years MCA and GERAKAN are still squatters! We can imply from that USM lecturer that they are squating in BN. To cling on and be lap dogs of UMNO after being insulted in the face goes to show how thick skin the leadership of both these chinese base parties are. Seems like rascism reigns supreme in BN. If I am an ethnic chinese it would be an insult to my intelligence to attend any of this moron's lecture. Any response from USM for employing such bigots? No wonder Malaysian Universities don't make it to any world ranking. Semua bolih mentality.

======================================================= =
I read the above line over and over again and I just can't make any sense of what Najib is saying!

How can Malaysia loose it's independance if Anwar and PR takes over? Are you saying Anwar is going to hand over Malaysia to a foreign nation? Are you trying to say that Malaysia will be conquered by a foreign nation when BN Government looses power?

Najib, NEVER FORGET PEOPLE's POWER. The People's power brought down BN to their kneees. People's power will still be there after PR takes over the Government. Do you think people are fools to allow Malaysia loose it's independance?

Next time you make a similar comment, think of PEOPLEs POWER or MAKKAL SHAKTHI!!!

The OPPOSITE is TRUE, and only when a RACIST party like Barisan NAJIS loses power to PAKATAN RAKYAT, the PEOPLE'S PARTY, will Malaysians see TRUE INDEPENDENCE in Malaysia !!

This is shocking! Can you give us more details. Who is going to rob us of our independence? How are they going to do it? We desperately need this information to safeguard our beloved Malaysia!
