(New Straits Times) - KOTA KINABALU: Opposition parties plan to work together in Sabah for the general election.
Sabah-based Pasok, or United Pasok Nunuk Ragang National Organisation, has issued an invitation to opposition parties to plot a strategy.{mosgoogle right}
Pasok president John Richard Jayasuria said the party would need the help of other opposition parties to face the Barisan Nasional.
"We need to work as a team. Maybe one party has to give way to the other to field a candidate for certain seats. I am contacting leaders from other opposition parties to discuss the best stategy."
Sabah Parti Keadilan Rakyat deputy chief Christina Liew was non-committal. "Nothing has been finalised, but things will fall into place when the time is right," she said. Sabah BN secretary Datuk Karim Bujang said it was a normal ploy by the opposition to come out with a so-called strategy.
"They will do whatever it takes to topple the BN, even if it contradicts their policies. On our part, we are ready for any challenges."
Former Yayasan Sabah corporate communications manager Abdul Rashid Salleh said it would be hard for the opposition to find a consensus to work together.
"Most of the smaller party members are disgruntled people or those sponsored by disgruntled people. Everyone knows their intentions.
"However, the BN should not get too comfortable because Sabah voters are a different lot and may just switch their support."
