Life is about involvement. Yes, there is legitimacy in leisure, rest, sleep, even standing still. But only in the context of work and involvement. When Jesus said, “Come unto me … and rest”, he was speaking to those “who labour and are heavy laden”.

In the face of this, it is curious to say the least why the Christian leadership in Malaysia seems so slow, reluctant and unwilling to address issues of nation-building, social justice and governance. Why is it that Christian leaders feel that silence seems always to speak louder than words?

Yes indeed it is written in the Book of Ecclesiastes, there is “a time to keep silence”. And in a sense, many leaders, and members of their congregations and other human beings in general, wish that at times they had kept their views or words to themselves. But in the biblical text this is immediately followed by  “a time to speak”. It is never meant to be a matter of “either or”. There is a time to keep silence and a time to speak.

Granted there is a risk. One can speak wrongly in terms of timing, tone, and content. In speaking out on something, for sure one can be misunderstood or one’s saying can be taken out of context or misquoted. But then there is also risk involved if we always keep silent. Silence can also be interpreted or misinterpreted.

Take courage and do not be dismayed. For the Lord has gone ahead of you and make known His will to His church. That we, as Christians, are called to be the head and not the tail; to be the salt and light of this world.

Many have pledged their commitment for justice and will continue to do so. Albeit not in the MSM which everyone knows is biased and prejudiced. Therefore, take heart that our battle is not against the flesh but against the evils in the spiritual realm.

Just as you and I make our stand known before man, our spiritual leaders have made their stand known before God, through prayer and supplication. And in God's time and design if He so chooses to move against man, His will shall be done swiftly as in the Biblical times. Be strong and take courage. Do not fear or be dismayed. Have faith. Shalom.

Being silent does not equate to no action. Prayers can move mountains. Admittedly there are churches who keep silent because they are fearful. Those who choose to be fearful to man but not God, they are accountable for their actions. Those fearful of God will act in the right time and place because God will show them. It is for all Christians to rise against injustice. And this is biblical and one does not need to pray about it to know God's will in the matter. God will bring down the arrogant. He will also punish the evil. Likewise all his people should stand up and take action given the positions and authority given them for such a time as this. If God is for us who can be against us?

In fact, other Malaysians have noted that the Christian churches are only interested in looking after themselves: their places of worship, building renovations, their rights, their bibles, what words they can use, and their burial grounds.

Possible answers to silence of Christian leaders :

1) They are cowards. Christian history is filled with horror stories of persecution against the Christian community. Only Catholics in history are known for their aggression against others, and christians too.

2) They are self-preserving. The end is almost the same as the above, but for a different reason - money. If the church cannot operate from a big building, there is no money coming in.

3) They are Kingdom minded, god-fearing and bible believing. John the Baptist spoke out against infringement against the Kingdom of God. Jesus never spoke out against the administration whether Jewish or Roman - only against transgressions against the Holy Temple and religious hypocrisy.

4) They live out Jesus' prophecy "The Kingdom of God suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force".

5) They believe that the everything is spiritual warfare. And they fight spiritual warfare with spiritual weapons - prayer. I have seen so praying meetings in churches intensely praying against the evil that is in the government, ravaging this country, rampaging thru society. So what is behind all the evil is spiritual. Human efforts will will vanity vanity vanity.

6) They believe in being 'meek' for the meek shall inherit the earth.

Personally, I think it is more of #2. I think it is fear - fear of being ordered to close down, being inconvenienced. If the membership is inconvenienced, they won't come to worship, and they cannot sell collect money, sell christian books to earn commission, and then all the funds will run out.

Aiyyaaa, that should make many people angry with me, but being Christians, they will be very gentle with their protestations. They won't threaten to cut of my head, or tell me to go back to somebody else's homeland for saying these things.

I agree that Prayers move mountains.
And we have been praying for the leadership of
Malaysia weekly. A bunch of us from various churches
in my hometown that will meet up
and pray. But I do agree that we need to SPEAK up
and I believe that political awareness need to be imparted
to the general church community.

ASK4u,

Just try to sound intelligent on topic, which is, Christians speak up. Don't go charging amok about on Theophilus and Origenism and Reincarnation, Just cos you know a few big words doesn't make you intelligent and you certainly didn't escape your emotions. Whatever your anti=Christian issues are, this is not the time and place. This is not a forum for "deep, unemotional and intelligent" discussions and if any intelligence is needed that will take several years and books.

This is a more urgent call to you rather than you going around proselytizing unwary Muslims, Hindus etc into believing all your sugar-coated lies. "Holy Crusaders", are you ready to refute my claims?
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Dear ask4u,
It is sad that you choose to antagonize, when you wish to engage.
Shameless? Sugar-coated Lies? Reincarnation? Crusaders?
Call it whatever you like, if it makes you happy.

Whatever it is that's eating you, hope it gives you peace.
Christians will voice out when the time is right, on the proper platform of Justice - not through chest-thumping challenges on the theology of other religions/beliefs.

By all means be "intelligent"!
And Thanks for the "enlightened" theology you espouse anyways.

That's what I'm doing; are Gnostics not Christians?

Well how about you? and oh sorry for causing you so much inconvenience in you having to leave your confort zone looking up those meanings in the dictionary. I'll try to use words that are a little more manageable for you in future.

This is not a forum for "deep, unemotional and intelligent" discussions and if any intelligence is needed that will take several years and books.

That's your believe, I need not subscribe to it.

Dear cruzeiro, please accept my sincere apology. You seemed to be a polite and a nice person. I am ashamed I was not and went overboard with my charges due to some unpleasant encounters I had with some irrational 'brothers' this morning. Jiz, what I wrote was not so nice isn't? Yesus forgive me.

“Come unto me … and rest”

This means come into 'the state of eternal peace' that He is already in. A state where 'I and my father are one'. And you too can be in 'that state'. And 'rest' means to relieve oneself of the burdens of life, and return to one's true home, which is eternal peace.

It does not mean go to him in person. It is not addressed to persons who are physically tired by labour, but is addressed to all, inviting all to unburden themselves from the weariness of life and enter that state of eternal peace or nirvana.

For 2,000 years they have been giving a literal (nonsensical) interpretation of the sayings.
