Tide turns against BN; landslide win for Pakatan? PDF Print

The most telling problem for the BN is its utter inability to reinvent itself and introduce meaningful reforms after its major setback in the March general election. They are still out of touch with reality or rather the people’s reality on the ground. And they find it so difficult to get off their high horse and get in touch with the people’s changed mood and desire for justice and people-centred development. That inability could cost them dearly when the result is announced on Tuesday night.

I was on the mainland yesterday and ran into a few people. From my conversations with them, it sounded like quite a few people were determined to teach the BN a lesson in the by-election.

The Christians are utterly disgusted with the “show cause” letter to The Herald. They are definitely not impressed. Many of them are urging their friends and family members to vote for the opposition.

Najib and Khairy’s  presence - and Saiful’s via video - in Permatang Pauh could prove to be counterproductive, to put it politely.

I ran into a DAP grassroots worker and he said that they are going all out to ensure the BN candidate loses his deposit - and he seemed confident it was within reach! (That remains to be seen.) Rural Penanti and Permatang Pasir are in the Pakatan bag, he claimed. The only concern he had was with the low-rise low- and medium-cost flats in the ethnically mixed urban area of Seberang Jaya, which he said the BN could easily pinpoint for targeted campaigning.

A Malay petrol pump attendant in neighbouring Butterworth told me that there was a great need for check and balance at the national level. Among the local issues he cited were:

  • the imposition of tolls on the Butterworth-Seberang Jaya stretch of the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE). Until recently, this stretch had been toll-free for years.  “50 sen toll put dia orang mau,” he grumbled.
  • the proposed Second Penang Bridge, which the attendant said was a waste of funds. (He doesn’t have a car.) He said it would only be used by those heading to the island from the south. He has a point, especially when you consider that the cross-channel ferry service has been allowed to deteriorate to a pathetic level. Long waits are the order of the day, and if you try to take a ferry after 9.00pm, good luck to you. Why they don’t increase the number of ferries when the Penang Bridge is so congested continues to baffle me. Actually, no, it doesn’t puzzle me; they just want to prove to Penangites that we desperately need another bridge - and a RM5 billion bridge at that. Big money-la.
  • the higher cost of living.

One veteran KL-based journalist warned about the digital divide among rural voters who rely heavily on the mainstream media for their news.  These older voters especially, he said, could be influenced by Saiful’s oath-taking and challenge to Anwar to swear by the Qur’an.

THESE BLOKES JUST SIGNED THEIR DEATH WARRANTS. WHEN THEY OPEN THEIR MOUTHS, ALL THE RAKYAT SEE ARE JUST THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT THEY SAY - YOU ARE GUILTY TO THE CORE AND YET, WANT US TO BELIEVE DSAI IS GUILTY?? IF THERE IS A FOREST RESERVE NEARBY, JUST GO AND HIBERNATE - PERMANENTLY AS U ARE A DISGRACE TO THE NATION.

Anwar once told all Malaysians that the government of Malaysia has consistently been governed by individuals of less calibre. This can be proven by their style of campaigning in Permatang Pauh. They only made Anwar the issue, instead of highlighting their own programmes. They would have had equal chances if they have not magnified the fabricated sodomy issue, and played their underdog role well. But they did the reverse and political watchers all over the world are of the view that the BN candidate will loose his deposit!

Hey PKR teams, here this out. and please use this as the approach!

Yes, we don't care how much Anwar has done in the past.

We only want a check and balance government.

Anwar must win in order to provide the check and balance.
Not that Anwar is good but we need him.
Without Anwar, the petrol price will not drop.
Without Anwar, the ACA will not act
Without Anwar, Hishamuddin will still wave his kris
without Anwar, Petronas will not reveal how much profit they are making
Without Anwar... more and more BN will commit wrong doings..

That is all. So vote for Anwar, not becasue he is Anwar. Only because we want check and balance.

I am every hour every minute pray for the landslide victory for Anwar specifically and PR generally. I hope P.Pauh folks can send a second tsunami to shake up BN further and continue the tidal wave of change.
We, Malaysian, are blessed because in dark we found the ray of hope and that proves God never leave us alone with BN bullies. Hopefully, we can get through this difficulty and emerge as a stronger nation.
The way BN campaigning in P.Pauh has shown they are willing to take any cheap action to disgrace their enemy including creating fear and false banner.

Issues on offer by PR are impirically values which mankind has upheld since time immemorial. One cannot fault values like accountability, anti-racist, transparency, true justice ..... which are all encapsulated in PR's policies.

What has BN got to offer?

More slime and sleaze in the form of using their old threat and fear derived from racial and religious issues. And of course using their judiciary and enforcement agencies (Police and ACA) which they control and command to act to favour them.

The use of money in the form of bribery is also reported to be rampant. This again is not new. Money politics has often been equated with UMNO/BN.

Any decent citizen can see the difference between what PR and BN offer. We are not the gullible people BN thinks we are. In the pre-age of internet access, we were duped into believing what the MSM throw at us, all of which were dancing at the end of puppet strings controlled by the Master Puppeteer in the form of BN/UMNO.

We now have the alternative media where the truth cannot be hidden anymore and lies are exposed. We now know what BN/UMNO truly is and we the rakyat will be deciding our own future!!!!!

To put it simply, it is not easy to knock the 'arrogance' out of their skull. They fail miserably to listen to the rakyat wants and needs. Instead of showing resolve after the March 8 Tsunami, they embarked on an adventure of treachery, invoking racial sentiment and instability, scandalous abuse of authority of the Police and Justice system.....
The BN lead by the now dying UMNO have never been in touch or at least have lost touch with the reality and the people's reality on the ground for the last 25 or 30 years. What they have been doing all that time is enriching their families, cronies and people around their circle by plundering the wealth of this country while being protected by the dysfunctioning Justice and Security system. It wont be easy for them to admit to the reality because they do not know what the reality is because the have never listen to the people to know what reality is. They are still to busy trying to rebuild the crumbling wall that is protecting their plunder.

"And they find it so difficult to get off their high horse and get in touch with the people’s changed mood and desire for justice and people-centred development".
My sentiments exactly! These UMNO/BN goons will never learn; their leaders are still in a state of denial 5 months after the March tsunami. They are actually desperate and are now clutching at straws; personal attacks by DPM (flying in Badminton Champion, Sabah gambling licence and allocations to mosques and suraus), KJ (Koran-swearing and Anwar-burying speech), Ezam (boxes of documents), Koh Tsu Koon (Amin Shah's repayment), Hisham (allocation to Chinese schools) etc, etc are signs of desperation! PM taking train/LRT rides, lowering of 15 sen petrol price, ACA action on Perak Excos, Hamzah's "kacau isteri", police raid on RPK's house and Arif's bogus Ph.D. story, payment to "spies" all go to show how politically bankrupt and how low these goons can stoop to achieve their evil scheme of clinging on to power.
Voters of Permatang Pauh have the power to put a stop to all these; but please beware of electoral frauds and dirty tactics of BN/UMNO.

Najis, ini bukan election 1978!!! Get down from your lame high horse, we are now in year 2008!!!

Believe me, now, the majority are not interested to know whether Cfool has been screwed by Anwar or not! We have come to a stage "if it is so,.... so what?" Let him go on schrewing - we want change and that matters!

BN now using last resort characters to talk and give good reports to the press. Yesterday this guy by the name of Kenneth Iswaran suppose to be Chairman of The Indian Chamber of Commerce was seen talking on TV3 telling that the DPM / Govt proposed something for the Indians before the PP by election was set. Pleselah bro, we know what type of sleezy person you are, the driver yes a mere driver to the late D Crus of JB that was murdered few years back in JB. And how you sapu his wife and made to be your wife after he went down in business. For your info this Dcrus is the contractor that built JB's Holidau Plaza. This mooron Keeneth built the JB's Best World Plaza and untilnow no business. Padan Muka.

P44 will have the same effect of C4 smilies/cool.gif, unlike C4, P44 effects will still be as devastating...dismembering and blowing BN into bits. In fact P44 is akin to a 'blow job' that will explode in their faces!! smilies/grin.gif , that may well be what BN is playing out..'dirty slimmy' politics.

BN is highly unlikely to win this by-election. They made the most stupid mistake in raising the fuel price by such massive amount. Now they are making another mistake by reducing the fuel price by too small an amount despite the fact that crude oil price has fallen below the price when petrol was selling at RM1.92. I think the people in govt aren't very clever or wise.

MT2Day does'nt seem to be getting anything from che det lately! Is he alright or is he getting ready to join Moosa Hussam in ICU to re-build his own heart by-pass ?

Does he need diapers now?

The rakyat is willing to send him his diaper needs due to some savings from petrol price 8 sen reduction.

Latest Ground Zero Observations 5pm to 9pm 24-8-2008;

Just back from 4 hours of visiting all the BN & PKR stations;
Its true that almost 95% of BN stations seems adandoned except the Trengganu UMNO center with their workers sitting, looking lost and exhausted.

PKR stations had definitely captured huge crowds especially the locals were grouping there, with video speeches playing. Very motivated PKR workers busy working under the rain and high spirited, morale is definitely boosted.

The Melaka PKR group of ladies and children were really enjoying themselves under the bus stand, waving and shouting along the roadside, a jovial group. I smiled and wave back at them.

The Traffic crawl along Tanah Liat to BM town was worse than the peak Bukit Bintang jam. My car can only move at 3 km per hr. Most surprising was that I kept seeing cars, trucks and vans with PKR, PAS & DAP flags but only one BN UMNO van.

I sensed something must be DEFINITELY WRONG here in Permatang Pauh, just can't figure out what happened to the BN workers. Is it about Najib's Hindu rituals?

My estimate is that a significant portion of Malay voters were strongly influenced by PAS onslaught last few nites.

There is a free dinner by the MCA BM group at about 7pm in a chinese association but there isn't any crowd.
