An opposition MP had ticked off Umno for carrying a racist banner at Saturday's Permatang Pauh by-election nomination.
Lim Kit Siang (DAP-Ipoh Timur) said he was shocked when he saw a video on online news portal Malaysiakini which showed Kota Raja Umno members carrying a huge banner with the words Melayu DiTindas, Mana Keadilan (Malays Oppressed, Where is Justice).
"This is a very racist, communal and chauvinist stand. We are celebrating the 51st Merdeka celebrations in the couple of weeks and this is making a mockery of the celebrations," he said at the parliament lobby today.
He wanted Umno to apologise and withdraw such banners from the by-election.
He called on the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and his deputy Datuk Seri Najib Razak to explain whether they endorse such actions. He also called on other BN component parties like MCA, MIC and Gerakan to take a strong stand whether they support Umno's stand on this. - NEW STRAITS TIMES
