A terror bid to blow up the Eiffel Tower, symbol of French modernism and engineering excellence, has been uncovered. Islamic elements in France are blamed for the plot but questions arise on who is really behind it.
Is Iran plotting against France? The French authorities arrested a group of 'Islamists' whom they suspected were attempting to blow the Eiffel Tower. This piece of news revives the rivalry (growing and intensified) between the Iranians and the French regimes. Iran's secret services are pretty much strong in Paris and the attempt on the Eiffel Tower could be an attempt by Iran to 'pre-empt' a strike against France for obvious reasons. Iran and France has old scores to settle. With the overthrow of the Shah of Iran, the French lost huge business potentials and large investments were lost. The French government did not prevent the Ayatollah Khomeini from fermenting the Iranian revolution from within the borders of France. They expected Iran to have closer ties with the French government and wanted to gain from their military expansion in the future, which includes nuclear programs. If we follow this logic, then we may understand why it may not be Osama who is behind all the plots to attack Paris. Since the Iranians has a very powerful intel service and they are all over the place, why would Tehran not be tempted to ‘pre-empt’ a strike on the French before any attempts by Paris to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities?
