Pressmen covering Permatang Pauh assaulted by Pakatan supporters (updated)

NST photographer Mohamad Sairen Mohamad Nafis and a French photographer Halim Berbar were attacked by a group of Pakatan Rakyat supporters while covering the Permatang Pauh by election today.

Sairen suffered bodily injuries during the attack and also lost his camera. Berbar sustained swelling to his head and leg injuries.

The incident took place a short distance from the nomination centre as the photographers were wrapping up coverage and preparing to leave.

Come on NST! How do you know they are genuine PKR supporters and not UMNO supporters? Did the Police interview them? Don't ASS-U-ME la.

You can describe it truthfully like "NST photographer Mohamad Sairen Mohamad Nafis and a French photographer Halim Berbar were attacked by a group of supporters waving PKR flags, or wearing PKR uniforms or something truthful".

NST - you have lied so many times, no one will believe you now.

Halim Berbar you are a French. You should know better NST is a pro goverment newspaper. NST stlye paper will not exist in France. I can understand Mohamad Sairen Mohamad Nafis working for NST but not a Frechman. Halim, you got a lot to learn from NST not what to do.

i have attended many a PKR/DAP/PAS ceramahs here in Penang, never saw one incident of this sort.

Brought NST 20 copies from year 2000 to 2002
Brought NST 3 copies from 2003 to present

This "incident" reported above sounds suspiciously so much like so many other stink bombs that that bloody newspaper has become so infamous for as far as I am concerned.

TotaLLY agree with teohsh that may be those are not PKR supports but people planted by others to bring PKR down. I dont believe in what NST publish anymore. Why would PR attack these guys? Give me a break... There must be at least someone in the mass of local and foreign reporters, or thousands of people with mobile phones/cameras that snapped "the incident"? Anyone? No? Also, Halim Berber is French photographer and has been living in Malaysia for more than 10-15 years. He used to be a freelancer, but if I am not mistaken now he mostly works for Bernama, or NST, or another MSM... We will believe if there are solid proofs and "PKR" people are proven guilty. Otherwise, this is just another BN bullshit...

A desperate tactic by BN to badmouth PR. There's no reason for PR supporters to attack press photographers even if they are from the partisan NST. There must be hundreds of press photographers there, why are those 2 attacked? Sounds like a fake story planted by Bernama or must be BN agent provocateurs.

Why there are always assaults on journalists/media personnels nowadays by PKR security guards and "supporters" nowdays whenever there is an important PR function? I may believe so if it is once. Now there are 3 incidences at least lately. I begin to wonder who are the real provocatuers. Are real PKR not aware of the precarious situation they are in, to cause such bad publicity? I think the answer is clear, though I may be wrong.
