THE CORRIDORS OF POWER REPORT ON THE ROYAL COMMISSION OF INQUIRY INTO ANWAR’S BEATING

Part 9

The Malaysian government says that the decision to arrest Anwar Ibrahim was made on 20 September 1998, the day Anwar led the biggest demonstration in Malaysia’s history. Anwar was a threat to national security, argues the government, and that was why he was arrested under the Internal Security Act (ISA).

Well, the Royal Commission of Inquiry that sat from 22 February to 4 March 1999 to investigate Anwar’s beating revealed otherwise. There had actually been a plot to arrest Anwar long before 20 September 1998. And this was confirmed by Dato Yaacob Md Amin, the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) who testified in the Inquiry.

“In June 1998, the CID was in the process of investigating Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim,” said Dato Yaacob. “I was informed from time to time regarding the progress of the investigation.”

“On 20 September 1998, a decision had been made to arrest Dato Seri Anwar,” added Dato Yaacob. “I do not know when the decision was actually made to arrest Dato Seri Anwar on that night.”

“The decision had been made before the 20 September 1998. The arrest of Dato Seri Anwar was under Section 377 of the Penal Code. The decision was made a week before 20 September 1998.”

“The arrest was not carried out then because I was waiting for the right time, correct time, to arrest Dato Seri Anwar.”

“The decision to arrest Dato Seri Anwar under Section 377 of the Penal Code was made by the AG’s Chambers.”

Well, there we have it. The Director of the CID testified at the Royal Commission of Inquiry that the AG’s Chambers was the one behind Anwar’s arrest. And they had already decided to arrest Anwar under Section 377 of the Penal Code. And this decision was made a week before the arrest, while the “machinery started churning” three months before that – in June.

But, on the night of 20 September, they arrested Anwar under the ISA on the flimsy excuse that he was “a threat to national security”.

This adds weight to Anwar’s accusation that there was a political conspiracy to get rid of him. And the police’s testimony just strengthens this argument further.

Tomorrow, we will go through the events of the night they arrested Anwar.

If only UMNO morons could spend the time plotting and scheming into good cause for the nation, just to bring down an individual they used up so much time and resources, what a bunch of goons.

As it was then, so it is now.

By the way RPK, is the person who sponsored the RM 25,000 celebration at the Chemistry Dept represented in the image below (or anyone associated with him)?

The reason Mahatahi was so pissed off with Anwar was because during the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis, his son was saddled with Billions of ringgit of debt. He asked Anwar to use the national reserve to bail out his son's companies but Anwar said his prioirity was to combat the national financial crisis. Anwar refused to bail out Mokhzalim but assured Mahatahi that the banks would be persuaded to give concessions and waiver to his son.

This became the straw that broke the camel's back and Mahatahi needed to get rid of Anwar by hook or by crook. He couldn't use corruption to sack Anwar because there wasn't anything to charge him with. Moreover how could he utilize such a charge when all the fingers will be pointing towards his family and cronies? Hence, the best charge would be for sodomy as it is difficult to prove and more importantly it is a crime which is deplored by the Muslim majority population. Hence, a plot was devised to depose his capable and incorruptible deputy

Sodomy-The Movie is a 1998 production and directed by Mahatahi. This is a multi million ringgit budget drama with big time casts starring Anwar Ibrahim (My Hero), Solaimalai Nallakaruppan (The Tennis Player), Sukma Darmawan (The Adopted Brother), Munawar Anees (The Speech Writer), Musa Hassan (The Assistant Commissioner of Police), Lim Kong Boon (The Forensic Expert), Mohamad Said Awang (The CID Chief), Azizan Abu Bakar (The Driver), Ummi Hafilda Ali (The Private Secretary Sister), Justice Augustine Paul (The Judge), Gani Patail (The DPP). Among the highest paid actors were musa, gani and augustine paul.
Sodomy - The Sequel is a 2008 production effort by Bodowi & directed by Najis. This was initially planned for a lower than the previous budget drama with some former cast and few new faces. Production is still on going. Casts include Anwar Ibrahim (Still My Hero), Gani Patail (The AG), Musa Hassan (The IGP), Najis (The Director Himself) and Newcomer Saifool (The *******).
I personally believe the budget for this drama will soar much higher than the previous in order for the production to be successful. And this will be at the expense of THE RAKYAT.

Mr Hace.... please refresh my memory...

Was it UMMI hafilda or someone else who made the paternity allegation? Remember they also alleged that another baby girl was supposed to be sired by Anwar with another woman, but DNA test proved it wrong?

Can you see the complete story? sometimes they accused Anwar of Sodomy, other times, adultery with another woman? which was which???

Mr Sabahfan,
Yes it was her...

The sister of Anwar's former private secretary, Ummi Hafilda Ali, and his former driver, Azizan Abu Bakar, accused Anwar in August 1997 of sodomy and adultery.

They later retracted the allegations, which are at the heart of Anwar's corruption and sex trial.

Ummi accused her sister-in-law Shamsidar Taharin, who is married to Anwar's former private secretary, was having an affair with the then finance minister.

Anwar was accused in a recent book, ``Fifty Reasons Why Anwar Cannot Become Prime Minister,'' of fathering an illegitimate child with Shamsidar. But blood tests later proved that Shamsidar's husband had fathered the child.

Witness: Ummi and I were intimate
By Raphael Wong

KUALA LUMPUR: A farmer told the High Court yesterday he had sex with Ummi
Hafilda Ali while they were in London in mid-1998.

During this period, she had confided to having fabricated evidence against
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in order to secure a RM10mil contract, defence
witness Nor Azman Abdullah @ Beginda said.

Nor Azman said Ummi Hafilda had also admitted pressuring Anwar's driver
Azizan Abu Bakar to accuse Anwar of sodomising him.

Nor Azman continued saying Ummi told him and Sng that Umno executive
secretary Datuk Tengku Adnan Mansor, Kelantan Umno chief Tengku Razaleigh
Hamzah and Finance Minister Tun Daim Zainuddin had sponsored the publication
of the book while writer Khalid Jafri was responsible for fabricating the
evidence.

"Ummi told me that after Anwar was brought down, both of us would get
RM10mil from a contract to supply 10 advertising poles to the KL
International Airport in Sepang and I was to be given a 25% share in it," he
said.

Asked if Ummi Hafilda had told him who was behind the publication of 50
Dalil, Nor Azman said it was the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir
Mohamad.

Anwar was arrested not so much because he was a threat to national security--it was more because he was a threat to Barisan Nasional security--more specifically security of mahathir's political future. Just imagine what will happen to mahathir if Anwar was to take over as PM. Mahathir will e the first person to be arrested for corruption!
